Materials
Olars Ulla largely uses natural materials. Materials that have little impact on nature during production.
The clothes are made from quality materials and the goal is to constantly increase the proportion of environmentally friendly materials. Currently Olars Ulla is working to ensure that all production takes place in Europe, from yarn to finished garment.
We have collected some more information about the materials in our collections right now and how they are produced.
Flax
Linen fabric is produced from the flax plant. Flax preparation involves preparing the plant in different stages so that the long spinnable fibers inside the stalk are exposed. Flax is one of man's oldest crops and has been cultivated since at least 5000 BC. Compared to cotton, linen is gentler on the environment as the cultivation process and processing require less water. Flax can be grown in cool climates where pests are less prevalent and the amount of pesticides can be minimized. The plant also does not require much fertilization and therefore the impact on the environment during cultivation can be kept low.
Our linen comes from raw material that is grown, woven, treated and dyed in Europe. For each collection, we usually also design at least one own fabric pattern. This fabric is also printed in Europe. All linnen garments are also sewn in Europe.
The long fibers of the linen provide a fabric that can survive for generations if properly cared for. We also love it because it only gets more beautiful the more it's used!
Monochrome
In the collection, we choose between three different coarsenesses to ensure that the natural characteristics of the garment are highlighted in the best way. Black and white linen is a classic for Olars Ulla and is supplemented with new colors that suit the season's collection, AW23-24 the new colors are petrol and brown.

Striped
AW23-24 we have a wonderfully soft, narrow-striped linen fabric in black, with white stripes. The garments in this fabric give a dressy and stylish impression. We love this fabric! And it fits nicely as a complement to plain linen.

Floral
Our floral patterns can now almost be compared to a perennial, given its recurring and obvious place in every collection. We are a little extra fond of this autumn's flower, with its dark musty tone and its winding mysterious pattern. It has a neutral, dark background, with maroon colored roses and discreet green smaller flowers.

Herringbone
This is a slightly coarser fabric in 100% linen, that has become a recurring feature in our autumn collections. AW23-24 we see a warm rust colored herringbone, which complements the collection's other colors nicely. The herringbone pattern is also available in a natural/black color that goes with almost everything.

Wool
With its qualities, wool is a unique raw material and a true functional material. It ventilates, insulates and absorbs at the same time. Air gaps in the material increase the insulation of body heat and keep you warm. The ability to absorb moisture also means that a wool garment does not feel damp and cold against the skin. Wool repels dirt and moisture thanks to the fat lanolin, which covers the fiber. Therefore, wool garments do not need to be washed as often, preferably they can be aired with good results in damp weather.
All our wool garments are made of 100% mulesing-free wool. Mulesing, which may occur in wool production, is a procedure that involves scalping the sheep to prevent pest infestation. The method is animal cruelty and is often done without anesthesia.
Ylle
The wool in our outerwear comes from sheep in New Zealand. It is 100% virgin wool. Virgin wool comes from living sheep.
The woolen fabric is produced in a factory within the EU, where production takes place with less water, energy consumption and chemical agents compared to conventionally produced woolen fabric. The coats are also sewn within the EU.
Our woolen outerwear is lined to stop the cool wind. Our lining is a luxurious matte black fabric made from 53% organic cotton and 47% FSC certified viscose. As the cotton is organic, it has been grown without the use of artificial pesticides or fertilizers, nor does it contain any genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The viscose is a regenerated cellulose fiber made from wood that comes from responsible forestry, i.e. forestry that takes people and the environment into account. The fabric is woven, treated and dyed within the EU, where the garments are also sewn.
Merino wool
The wool in our knitted woolen garments is made of fine merino wool.
Wool fibers are measured in microns. In order for the wool not to be perceived as prickly, the value should be below 23 microns. Our wool measures 19.5 microns.
Our knitted garments in the autumn collections are made with a technique called fully-fashion. It mimics the traditional type of knitting where the parts of the garment are knitted into their final form by a knitting machine and then sewn together. This technique is slightly more labor-intensive than cutting the parts out of knitted panels, but results in significantly less waste during production.
All wool tends to pill, especially on areas exposed to friction, such as under the arms. The advantage of wool piles is that they are easily removed without affecting the quality of the garment.

Viscose jersey
This fantastic material that is soft and supple to wear, while providing a perfect balance between style and comfort can be found in all our collections. Black is the base, complemented by white and, in the warmer seasons, also a refreshing color.
Viscose is a regenerated cellulose fiber made from wood. The tricot is dyed and knitted within the EU, where the garments are also sewn. The garments consist of 96% viscose and 4% elastane.
